Greetings and Introductions, Daily life


Introduction to Course & expectations

Greetings & About me. Kenalkan! (Let me introduce myself). Tetang saya (About me) Expressions of personal pro nouns – saya, kami, kita, dia, mereka. What my name, where I am from, who is in my family. Sentence structure.


Daily life (school). Intercultural understanding. Comparing a day in the life of an Indonesian student to my own.

Ethnic groups/ religious affiliation/generalisation & stereotypes about cultural groups.

3 Family and friends. Interact with peers to describe aspects of daily life, school, friends and pastimes.  

Simple verbs: suka(like), mau(want), dapat(have), lihat(look)

Describe objects using colours (merah/biru..), size (besar/kecil..)

‘About me’ Oral & written in class task (5%)

Daily tasks.

Translating- Language dictionary skills

Locate and find common Indonesian words, contents, descriptive words. .Nomor, lokasi, tempat.

Adjectives, nouns, pronounce, possessive word order.

Possessive words – nya, mereka/kami/kita

Mid-term Test (10%)

Emotions/ Feelings

Expression of language and pronunciation of words to suit.

Imperatives: Eg- Jangan!; Cepat!. Inviting others to use polite forms eg- dusuklah, silahkan.

8 Family Tree – Describing family members and the family unit. Indonesian emphasis on age order and specific name structures  

Poster/Story board ‘A day in the life of…’

Daily task, chores, family, friends, greetings summary 

10 Finalise posters to submit. Initiate interactions with teacher and peers using descriptive and expressive language to exchange information about home, neighbourhood, local community, eg – Dia tinggal di Perth dengan keluargnya.

Numbers  ratus (100’s), ribu (1000’s), Juta (millions)

Translate simple texts from Indonesian to English and vice versa. Use visual, print, online dictionaries word lists.

Calendar and Months

Class survey birthday months and dates. Cultural/Intercultural understanding. *The understanding cover areas where students reflect of Indonesian culture and their own. Words to express wishes for someone’s birthday differ from culture to culture. Compare Indonesian and Australian versions and consider similarities and differences.
