Resources:

We are using the Oxford Science Year 8: Western Australia textbook.

Instructions for students:

  1. Please sign up to the digital resources (instructions are on the inside of the front cover)
  2. Please download a digital copy of the textbook
  3. I will give you a copy of the Digital Lab Book. It is your responsibility to make sure you have an up to date back up!

. Students will not be permitted to access the online textbook during class due to internet speed restrictions.

Homework expectations:

  1. Students will be expected to pre-read the appropriate pages of the text (either content or experiment) before every class. This makes a significant difference both in helping you understand the content and helping you study for tests and exams.
  2. Students that do not complete set work in class will need to finish it for homework. If you work hard in class, you can reduce your homework!

Assessment details:

  1. Tests: These are topic tests, based predominantly on the content of chapters of the textbook. Each test is worth 20% of the Semester grade
  2. Lab reports and assignments: There are several lab reports and assignments per semester, worth varying amounts. Whilst there will be some class time allocated for these, students will need to work on the assignment at home to complete it to a satisfactory standard.
  3. The Digital Lab Book*: 5% of the semester grade. Students will need to work on this every week. It will be a record of all experiments and will be regularly assessed. Students are strongly advised to keep their Lab Book up to date, completing each report within 7 days of the experiment.
  4. Semester 2 Exam: This is worth 10% of the semester 2 grade. It will cover work from the entire year.
